Burkert is a senior at Marquette High School in Michigan, where she partici- pates in the U.S. Olympic Education Center program at Northern Michigan University. She was named the 2010 ASICS Girls High School Wrestler of the Year. Burkert was a 2009 Junior Nationals champion and 2010 Junior Nationals runner-up.
She also won the championship at the 2010 USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals. Also participating in the event was U.S.
mat official Sam Julian of Pennsylvania, who was selected to work the YOG from referees who worked the Pan American Qualifying event. Julian wrote a blog for

Burkert claimed a bronze medal in the Above 60 kg/132 lbs. division. Burkert opened the tournament with a loss to a wrestler from Hungary, but came back to beat an opponent from New Zealand for the bronze medal.
Rogers placed fourth in the men’s Above 70 kg/154 lbs. division in Beach Wrestling. He went 2-1 in his pool compe- tition, and in the bronze-medal match, lost to an opponent from Mongolia. Sheridan had a 2-1 record in Beach
Wrestling. Murphy lost his only match. “It was a fun experience for our wrestlers on the beach. They had some good challenges,” said Halvorson.
