TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS: Michigan’s Freddie Rodriguez won a Junior Triple Crown and Indiana’s Mitch Sliga captured a Cadet Triple Crown to highlight another big year at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Elena Pirozhkova won a silver medal and Tatiana Padilla captured a bronze as the U.S. women placed fifth in the World Championships. The U.S. Greco-Roman and freestyle teams fell short of winning a medal in Moscow.
GOLDEN GIRL:Women’s freestyle star Victoria Anthony joined some elite company by winning her second straight gold medal at the Junior World Championships in July in Budapest, Hungary. Anthony has her sights set on the 2012 Olympics.
12 REASONS TO WATCH: The college wrestling season is right around the corner. USA Wrestling’s Jason Bryant provides 12 reasons to watch. NCAA champs Kyle Dake of Cornell and Wisconsin’s Andrew Howe are among those to keep an eye on.
RODEO AND WRESTLING: Boyd Polhamus is a former wrestler who has made a name for himself as one of the top professional rodeo announcer in the United States. Polhamus sees many similarities between the two sports.
