ISO Accreditation helps ServiceMaster Newbury to Lead the Way

W

hile ServiceMaster Clean Newbury has always prided itself on a sterling reputation

for its service delivery, the company decided that in order to gain recognition as a professional cleaning service provider, it needed to get some quality accreditation under its belt.

The company’s Managing Director, Nick Dee Shapland, said: “In the past we were awarded the BSI 5750, but we felt that we wanted to achieve accreditation in which we were tested stringently for our service output. After much preparation and hard work, we were awarded the ISO9001 and the 14001 for delivery of commercial, communal, residential and contract cleaning services, meaning that we now can be recognised not only for quality assurance but against environmental criteria.”

These standards, from accredited certification body ISOQAR, are

externally audited to make sure that business is conducted in a safe, professional and environmentally conscious way.

The ISO Auditor commented: “ServiceMaster Clean of Newbury have demonstrated a committed and effective business practice throughout the route to registration. All staff interviewed have been able to answer questions and demonstrate compliance with company procedure with ease and are a testament to the competence of supervisory and managerial staff.”

Nick has developed a communal cleaning system, in response to winning a tender for their first social housing contract in 2004 with Sovereign Housing Association. The system was developed in order to address a new type of cleaning system that could cope with a large volume of people passing through a communal area.

By introducing new technology, new systems and machines, the company were able to deliver a service adapted to the client’s needs. The company is also aware of the tenants’ needs when delivering routine communal cleaning or specialised work such as trauma or disaster restoration. Nick’s franchise successes means that a partnering model is being rolled out across the franchise network so that other business owners, with a ServiceMaster franchise, can follow the business model set by Newbury as a commercial operations centre. This also means that more franchises can aim for the accreditations that Newbury has already achieved, with their assistance and guidance. Further information on
