Choosing the right games is key for operators of video lottery terminals (VLTs), but many are finding that peripherals such as printers play just as important a role.

ne company that’s been working closely with the new Italian VLT operators is FutureLogic, whose GEN2 Universal family is the latest in a series of products that have made it perhaps the leading manufacturer of TITO ticket printers for cashless gaming.

Developed with design feedback from global gaming OEMs and

casinos, the GEN2 Universal printers are designed to work both with existing gaming platforms and with the next generations of server-based and downloadable games. Indeed, they anticipate new GSA standards for downloadable content, are IGT-compliant and even permit in-game firmware updates via a USB communications port.

That wide compatibility means they can be specified across an entire

gaming floor – and is probably one reason that the firm has shipped more than a million units worldwide.

However, it’s not just connectivity that sets

FutureLogic apart: these printers are efficient and flexible to use and maintain too.

The print output itself is fast and

high-quality, covering 90mm per second for a typical ticket completion time of 2.2 seconds. Resolutions is 203 dots per inch – more than adequate for graphics as well as text – and plenty of those graphics can be stored on the printer, which has an eight megabyte capacity for templates. It also supports a wide range of barcode formats.

There are some neat features which reflect the work FutureLogic did

with users on designing the printer. For example, the company’s Intelligent Ticket Handling technology makes the paper available to the customer only after print has been completed inside the unit, eliminating the risk that a gamer will accidentally walk away with an incomplete ticket. And a large paper capacity of 300 tickets saves $200 per printer annually (which adds up on a large slots floor…), while FutureLogic’s own IntelligentBezel system reduces paper jams.

It’s no surprise, perhaps, that the company says the GEN2 has received so many awards it is the most decorated printer in gaming.
