Potential improvements Proposed energy performance improvement measures have assessed annual cost savings of £6,350 per year, with an overall payback period of 1.5 years (See Table 1). The assessed energy cost savings are 10% and carbon emissions savings are 10%. The main components of these measures are: • Energy champions: to ensure that energy-saving investment produces the maximum benefit, it is important that energy-saving policy and its implementation is properly managed. Formal allocation of responsibility for this area is essential, and one of the building management team should also be designated as the energy manager, whose first task should be the formation of an energy working group to further devolve responsibility for energy management to individual areas with clear consumption targets and monitoring with adjustment for degree days.
