ABOUT theELITE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
From Olympians like six-time champion Hunter Kemper to USA Triathlon Hall-of-Famers like seven- time winner Karen Smyers, some of multisport’s biggest names can call themselves U.S. elite national champions.
Since 1983, the event has been a showcase for the top American triathletes on U.S. soil, and last year’s men’s champion, Matt Chrabot (pictured), is a prime example of how a breakthrough at nationals can be a springboard to success on the world stage.
Chrabot earned a spot on the USA Triathlon National Team with his victory in Tuscaloosa and posted a pair of top-10 finishes in the 2010 ITU World Championship Series, including a season-best, fourth- place showing in Kitzbühel, Austria, on Aug. 14. He entered this month’s WCS Grand Final in Budapest, Hungary, as the No. 2 American and 13th overall in the WCS series rankings.
Who will be this year’s breakout star? Be sure to watch Saturday afternoon to find out. 2010 USA Triathlon Age Group | Sprint | Elite National Championship 34
