Les Gets, France
Overview: The perfect place to slope off for a short break on the slopes within easy access of Geneva. This quaint Savoyard village is a French gem.
In fact,
it was such a long time since the family had skied in a traditional, wooden chalet resort, that my daughter simply assumed that skiing in France meant high-rise, self-catering blocks. None of that here. The warm, relaxed
atmosphere of semi-pedestriansed Les Gets, dating back to the 11th century, creates the perfect resort for young families and traditionalists, with the huge bonus of easy access to the massive Portes du Soleil region linking 12 resorts in France and Switzerland, all on one ski pass. Location: Just one hour’s drive from Geneva Airport (68 kilometres). Facilities: The ski area offers 650 km of marked piste for all standards. New This Season: The Chavannes Bubble Lift has had a €4.5 million facelift
to feature new six-person bubbles moving 1500 people an hour up from 900. The station is now all on one level making it ideal for beginners. Snow-front area - the departure point of the Bould de Gomme draglift has been repositioned to enable beginners to ski from the ESF (Ski school) to the cable car on a flat surface. Upper slope ski runs have been levelled and widened. A new six-man chair lift takes experienced skiers directly to the red and black slopes of the Chamossiere ski area in just five minutes. This is the link-point in the Les Gets /Morzine ski area. Snowboarders now have access down Mont-Chéry on a newly-built boarder- cross run. Portes du Soleil has introduced an all-inclusive package for adult beginners for skiing and snowboarding.

Wellbeing Health and Beauty Rooms and putting and croquet is also available. The Terrace Bar and Restaurant is an informal bistro-style venue with a locally sourced, Mediterranean inspired menu from brunch through to dinner and hot chocolate to Cornish wines and champagne. A take away service is available for Gwel an Mor guests. Activities: Year round wildlife experiences are an important part of the Gwel an Mor experience, both for children and adults. The resort’s wildlife programme is to educate and enthuse with a strong conservation focus. Guests
can also try their hand at falconry, fly the resident Harris Hawk and Barn Owl and meet other rescued and tame animals such as foxes and hedgehogs. For the really active, Gwel an Mor is on the doorstep of the 630-mile South West Coastal Path and there are lots of other walks in the near vicinity.
