using the country’s Christmas markets as the main attraction in a City Break promotion this winter and will be producing a special dedicated brochure. Riga’s (Latvia) Christmas market celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year, as well as the 500th anniversary of its central Christmas Tree. Grand UK Holidays has four new UK
Christmas market tours and several to the Continent. Glenton Holidays has added two new Christmas market tours, one UK-based and one to France. Leger Holidays has added French,
German and Italian Christmas markets to its tours, while DERTOUR has added New Year breaks in Berlin and Munich.

Klaus Lohmann, director of the German National Tourist Office, UK “The high demand for trips to German
Christmas markets in the UK has had a very strong impact on visitor numbers from the UK for years. “Brits love the unique and cosy
Christmas atmosphere in Germany and due to the popularity of city breaks more and more independent travellers come to the country in December in order to enjoy German cities embracing Christmas time, especially to Cologne. "Nuremberg’s ‘Christkindl’ is
undoubtedly the best known one; while perhaps the most evocative is the

Harold Burke sales director Grand UK Holidays “Our tours to visit Christmas markets in
towns in the UK are gaining in popularity year by year. We have also added the ‘Continental Christmas Markets’ tour, taking in the markets of Bruges, Brussels and Lille, as well as a ‘Festive Folkestone and Bruges Christmas Market’ tour including a full-day excursion to Bruges, plus festive dinners and entertainment in Folkestone. "We have many customers who book
festive breaks early, so I’d urge agents to consider promoting these as far out from the season as possible.”
Ashley Dellow head of retail sales Leger Holidays “Our most popular Christmas tours include
Christmas Market breaks to Brussels and Cologne, from three or four days in length. These markets really capture the spirit of Christmas and offer a huge range of fantastic and unique market stalls. "Cologne is my personal favourite for
Christmas markets. It’s a lovely city with a laid-back feel with some fantastic architecture and places to see.”
Isabel Marthy product executive DERTOUR “Our Christmas Market top-sellers are Cologne,
Munich, Berlin, but rail breaks are becoming more and more popular (Cologne, Brussels, Bruges). Our Christmas break to Garmisch in the Bavarian Alps, which includes a special festive Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, is also a favourite.”
