Series™ gallium nitride (GaN) Metal Organic Chemi- cal Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) systems to Invenlux Corporation, a U.S.-based manufacturer of light- emitting diodes (LEDs) to ramp capacity at its factory in Haiyan City, China.

“Invenlux has a history of producing reliable and efficient blue and green LEDs for LCD backlighting, traffic lights, full color displays, and general illumina- tion,” commented Chris Yan, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Invenlux. “We continue to select Veeco as our supplier of choice for our LED capacity ramp because we believe their MOCVD tools provide a proven advantage in productivity, and a lower cost of ownership when compared to competitive systems.”

Furthermore, Veeco‘s St. Paul operations was awar- ded $800,000 in matching funds by the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Office of Energy Security provided by the American Recovery and Reinvest- ment Act to support emerging renewable energy technology.

The matching funds were awarded for a 1.5 year project that will expedite Veeco’s CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, selenium) deposition equipment technology to market. This technology helps solar

panel manufacturers to reduce their production costs and increase the feasibility of solar panels as an alter- native energy.

On August 16, 2010, Veeco Instruments Inc. has agreed to sell its Metrology business to Bruker Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR) for $229 million in cash. The transaction has been approved by the Board of Directors of both companies and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2010, pending regulatory review and subject to customa- ry closing conditions. The sale will transfer Veeco’s worldwide Metrology business to Bruker, including Veeco’s Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) business in Santa Barbara, CA and its Optical Industrial Metrolo- gy (OIM) business in Tucson, AZ, as well as Veeco’s associated global AFM/OIM field sales and support organization. http://www.veeco.com
