At the moment, it is quite hard to recognize a clear direction for the future economic develop- ment. The “Euro-Crisis” caused by Greece is not over yet, but was successfully postponed into the future. The problem of high national debts remains. Despite Germany looking good because of its statistical growth, it is still a fact that many German local communities are actually bankrupt.


The shortfall of the Russian summer wheat har- vest adds another problem for the global market. Increasing wheat prices are unlikely to seriously affect the leading industrial nations over the next 12 months because of sufficient wheat stock. However, another crop failure like this year will definitely affect Western civilization, as well. A better yield of Russian winter wheat in 2011 will slightly ease the situation.


Everyone knowing Russia just a little knows that the situation regarding the peat fields is unlikely to change in the next year. These peat fields were drained years ago and now burn almost every year. So, the problem is long and well-known. The only one who could indeed change some- thing is Putin. I wish he uses the next 12 months, not only for a stable wheat market.
