8 JULY: AMRITSAR The crew of a Turkmenistan Airlines flight discovered a newborn baby in the toilets of the aircraft during post-flight cleaning. An unmarried Indian woman had given birth inflight and had tried to flush the baby away.


10 JULY: RIYADH The body of a stowaway was found in the rear wheel compartment of a Nas Air jet when it landed in Riyadh after a flight from Beirut. The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Firas Haidar of Beirut.


14 JULY: ATHENS Demonstrators delayed an Israel-bound flight for around two hours after blocking five El Al airline counters to protest Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. Members of a communist labour union say they staged the protest in solidarity with Palestinian people in Gaza.


29 JULY: CANADA Transport Canada issued a ban on the application of 40cm x 30cm decals sold for $15 each on the thecheeky.com website. The decals depict realistic images of suitcases stuffed with U.S. bank notes, bags of cocaine, sex toys and even a bound and gagged flight attendant. The stickers are intended to raise a giggle and make the bags easier to spot as they arrive on luggage carousels. However, a spokesperson for Transport Minister John Baird says they’re just “not funny.”


14 JUNE: LAGOS An Air Nigeria flight taxiing for take-off to Abuja returned to the gate when a passenger started screaming that he wanted to get off; he was off-loaded and all the other passengers were re-screened.


15 JUNE: SALT LAKE CITY A Russian passenger became involved in a fight with his brother-in-law on a Delta Airlines flight from Honolulu to Salt Lake City. Both passengers were arrested on arrival; the brother-in-law was released having acted only in self defence, whilst the Russian was jailed, having faced charges including intoxication, disorderly conduct and assault against the arresting police officer.


19 JUNE: AJACCIO, FRANCE An Easyjet flight was preparing to land in Ajaccio when the crew decided to abort the landing due to weather conditions and return to Geneva. One of the passengers disagreed with the crew’s decision and tried to cajole the other passengers into helping him force the pilots to land in Ajaccio regardless. Police had to meet the aircraft when it landed back in Geneva.


15 JULY: NEW YORK Junior Almonte, 30, ran away from a security checkpoint without his shoes after a stolen gun was found in his bag. He surrendered a few hours later.


19 JULY: AMSTERDAM Jasper Schuringa was awarded the Conway Safe Skies Award, which has been given out since 1990 to recognise outstanding efforts to protect the global air travellers’ safety. Schuringa was the man accredited with overpowering Abdulmutallab on the Northwest flight on Christmas Day 2009.


24 JUNE: LOS ANGELES Linda McWright, 60, was arrested on suspicion of battery after fighting with a Los Angeles Airport Police officer who attempted to remove her from her Frontier Airlines flight after she refused to check in an oversized carry-on bag.

10 JUNE: ST. JOHN’S, CANADA A Lufthansa flight en route from Mexico City to Frankfurt diverted when Olaf Petersen, a 45-year old passenger from the Faroe Islands, became increasingly disruptive, was yelling and swearing and even urinated in the aisle. He was later fined C$10,000.


26 JUNE: REYKJAVIK, ICELAND An Aeroflot flight en route from Moscow to Havana had to divert to Iceland when two drunken Russian passengers began to smoke and consume additional alcohol. When cabin crew tried to intervene, the pair became verbally abusive.


29 JUNE: DENVER A United Airlines flight en route from Las Vegas to Chicago diverted due to a disruptive passenger on board.


2 JULY: PITTSBURGH A private jet en route from New Jersey to Ohio diverted to Pittsburgh due to the behavior of comedian Dave Chappelle, who allegedly refused to put on his seat belt, paced around the aircraft and even grabbed the pilot’s arms.


24 JULY: MELBOURNE Having entered the airside area by scaling the perimeter fence, a man took a joyride on the tarmac in a motorised cart stolen from the Virgin Airlines hangar.

12 JUNE: MALAGA A passenger assaulted a flight attendant on a Norwegian Air Shuttle flight from Stavanager to Malaga.

6 JULY: WINNIPEG A WestJet flight en route from Calgary to Halifax diverted when Barbara Loretta Morton, 47, allegedly tried to open a door in-flight.
