FROM THE EDITOR

2008 WILL BE THE YEAR OF HOUSING AND THIS IS REFLECTED IN AN IMPORTANT INITIATIVE BY US, THE PUBLISHERS OF SPECIFICATION MAGAZINE AND OTHER TITLES. THIS YEAR AND THIS MONTH HOUSING SPECIFICATION MAGAZINE IS BORN. WELCOME

We have designed this magazine to be the very first horizontal platform for all matters related to housing. What that means is that its readership is horizontal because the aim of its contents is to embrace and interest all parties and people, whatever their discipline, whatever their interest and whatever their motive. It is so serious a subject that all voices need to be heard, every idea needs to be mooted and solutions need to be found.

Of course, there is a wealth of information in the public domain. However, we believe that nowhere will you find or enjoy a facility which looks in every corner, draws in every strand and weaves opinion into a cohesive working and useful whole. That’s also why we have introduced the Housing Forum (see pages 29-35) and soon to be proactively online.

The way we house people has now become a political, social, economic, environmental and everything else complex subject (nightmare even). It has a major impact on architects, engineers, builders and planners. It influences the output of building product manufacturers and suppliers. It preoccupies every living person. It can so easily become the catalyst between order and disorder. This new magazine is here to help.

WELCOME TO THE HOUSING FORUM. WELCOME TO HOUSING SPECIFICATION
