LIME TECHNOLOGY
A new range of hemp blocks that combine carbon neutral properties with conventional block performance will be launched at Ecobuild 2008 by Lime Technology. The Hemcrete blocks, available in structural or non structural form, are factory produced and the same size as conventional building blocks. Unlike conventional blocks, however, Hemcrete blocks are zero carbon rated. Hemp is a natural material that locks in carbon as it grows. This makes them the perfect sustainable masonry solution as part of a zero carbon house. enquiry 49

VENCEL RESIL enquiry 53
When Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council was looking for a durable and lightweight fill material to strengthen a major retaining wall in a valley in Mossley, Manchester, they found the perfect solution in Fillmaster from Vencel Resil. The project involved replacing a 5m high 70m long section of dry stone retaining wall that had, through a combination of age and weathering, reached the end of its working life. Beneath the wall was a further 5m deep of fill and two old stone arch culverts through which a stream flowed under the road. The existing dry stone wall was replaced with a reinforced concrete ‘L’ shaped cantilever wall to give the 5m high structure sufficient strength. enquiry 54
