District house calls First, that problematic window has got to go BEFORE AFTER 2 1

THE PROBLEM A draped wall and off-center window have left a Waldorf homeowner “at a loss” as to how to remake her 18-by-14-foot bedroom.
Homeowner: Donna Gentile, with husband Bruce
THE SOLUTION Begin by removing the impossible-to-work-around window. The outdated curtains and wallpaper must go, too.
Roman shades show off the French doors and let in natural light while providing privacy.
Get rid of heavy furniture or replace it with lighter pieces. Swapping the wooden bed frame with an upholstered headboard is one quick fix. Placing a flat-screen television inside the armoire is another.
A can of espresso-colored paint creates a new armoire. Mirrored nightstands open up a tight wall.
Add visual appeal by repeating patterns, such as the curves of the headboard and armoire and the crisscross design of the nightstands and tufted bench.
A warm, neutral palette will allow the space to change with the light throughout the day.
Painting the doors, trim and new crown molding a creamy neutral white will give the room a cohesive and finished look.
