Chaucer Syndicates Ltd has announced the appointment of Ian Noble as professional indemnity class underwriter for Chaucer Syndicate 1084. He will join Chaucer in November to lead the Professional Indemnity account of Syndicate 1084’s new International Liability Division. This new initiative is due to launch in the final quarter of 2010 headed by Mark Lawrence.
Marina Moore
Torus Torus, the global specialty
insurer, has appointed Marina Moore as senior offshore construction underwriter with immediate effect. She will be developing the team’s offshore construction business and is based in Torus’ London office.
She joins from XL and brings over 30 years of London Market Offshore Construction experience to Torus, 25 of which were at Munich Re.
Sterling Sterling Insurance has
appointed James Leigh as regional development manager for the north. He has worked in the insurance industry for almost 20 years and joins Sterling from PMI Health Group where he was employed as senior commercial consultant. In his career, James has held several business development roles both for Allianz and ABC Insurance.
Cornish Mutual Cornish Mutual has appointed
two new inspectors.
Andy Grossey has worked in the farming insurance sector in Somerset for more than 15 years and was previously linked with Cornish Mutual through his work as a loss adjuster handling agricultural claims.
Joff von Tyszka has worked in the agricultural and commercial insurance sector for 25 years. Andy and Joff previously worked together before joining Cornish Mutual.

QBE
QBE has announced the appointment of Judy Holt to the newly created role of manager, broker development, to support the continued expansion of QBE’s offering in the UK and Ireland. She joined QBE from Allianz, where she worked for a decade and was most recently strategic account manager. With over twenty years of experience in broker development, Judy has worked in a number of roles including key account manager for the North & Midlands at Allianz and business account manager at Commercial Union Assurance Co. Ltd, now Aviva.
Aviva Sam Hudson has been
appointed head of broker personal lines for Aviva. He has worked for both Aviva General Insurance and RAC for the last five and a half years.
Combined Insurance
Combined Insurance has announced that Chris Harrison has been appointed as executive vice president and general manager, Europe, assuming overall leadership responsibility for Combined Insurance’s European business – sales and operations. He has 25 years of experience leading a number of insurance businesses – including health, accident, protection and travel product lines – as well as developing growth strategies in the UK and Europe. He joins from Simplyhealth Group where he spent the last 10 years focusing on direct to consumer health insurance
Brit Insurance
Brit Insurance has announced the promotion of Andrew Cunningham to head of office for its Gibraltar operations. He will also join the board of Brit Insurance Gibraltar (PCC) Limited.
He has 17 years of experience in the insurance sector. As well as being a qualified actuary, with experience of providing statistical and financial modelling of complex reinsurance structures, he also has significant underwriting experience. He has worked for Brit Insurance since 2000, holding a number of senior positions.
Insurance Fraud Bureau
Sam Hudson
The Insurance Fraud Bureau today announces the appointment of Glen Marr as director, IFB with effect from mid July 2010. He will be leaving his role as vice president, financial crime at Chartis Insurance UK (formerly AIG) to take up the position. Ben Fletcher, who has been acting as interim head of unit following Sue Jones’ departure from the position in March, will continue in his role as IFB head of operations.
Stewart McCulloch Garwyn
Garwyn, the liability adjuster, has appointed Stewart McCulloch as its new CEO. He joins Garwyn from the position of international chairman – global sales at Xchanging. Prior to this, he was CEO of Lockton Companies International Ltd. He has also held the posts of CEO at Alexander Forbes, and service development director at Willis, the risk management and insurance intermediary group. Stewart takes over as CEO from Declan Treanor who left the business earlier this year.
Liberty
LIU Europe, a division of Liberty Mutual Group, has appointed Michael Weesbach as casualty manager for its operations in Germany. Prior to this role, he held senior underwriting roles over a twenty year insurance career, underwriting insurance for international programmes and large international clients. The appointment follows LIU Europe’s recruitment of Christopher Holborn as casualty manager continental Europe last year.
