LVDTs successfully monitor structures in marine
environments

RDP Electronics Ltd has decades of experience in providing Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDTs) that provide accurate measurement of even the smallest movement in cracks, to provide essential diagnostic data that can be used to determine the cause and where necessary prompt appropriate remedial action. To combat the corrosive atmosphere in marine locations that can be more aggressive than total immersion in seawater due to the combination of saline water and oxygen that accelerates corrosion, it is essential to specify stainless steel transducers. For long-term tests, 316 stainless steel generally recognised as ‘marine grade’ stainless steel is preferred and usually LVDTs are additionally specified as rated up to IP68 and 230 bar.

YASKAWA Sigma-5 Servo Drive series
option units for the Sigma 5 series of servo drives. The introduction of an ‘indexer command module’ turns the sigma 5 into a powerful point-to-point- positioning controller. Then there are two new ‘communication command options’ allow the Sigma 5 servo drive to be implemented into CANopen and EtherCAT communication networks. The command modules can be used for both linear and rotary servo motors from single-phase AC230V 50w to 1.5Kw and three-phase AC 400V 500W to 15KW. The Indexer command option SGDV-OCA03A is simple and intelligent but turns the sigma-5 servo amplifier into a powerful and user friendly single axis- positioning unit ideal for operating a ballscrew or belt driven positioner as well as rotary positioning tables. Programming the indexer requires no knowledge of programming languages and simple and fast configuration is provided via the ‘SigmaWin+’ set-up software.
