provide architectural design services for the project, covering the design of the passenger cabins, public spaces and crew areas, as well as the refurbishment elements of the upgrade. STX will be handling the refit and refurbishment of a number of areas onboard, includ- ing the show lounge, Captain’s Club, observation lounge and crew mess and lounge areas. STX Lifecycle Services will be working in partnership with a sister company, Shipbuilding Completion Oy, on the refurbishment of the ship’s public spaces. The contract also includes the conversion of the
present cold storage rooms into dry storage areas, the building of new cold storage rooms and the refit of the crew galley, as well as the renewal of the food waste disposal system.
USA HVAC facility
opens in Florida Hamburg-based Imtech Schifau-/Dockbau-technik (ISD) has just opened a new service centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Te branch will offer a wide range of mechanical services, including HVAC conversions, maintenance, and spare parts, while the refurbishment of chillers and compressors will be carried out at Imtech’s own workshop on the new site. “With our new office we can now much better
support cruise operators with spare parts, maintenance and conversions,” says Tomas Arlit, ISD’s managing director. “Based on our experience of installing HVAC systems on more than 20 new cruise ships since 1988, and many refurbishment projects, we will now be better able to provide lifecycle services for both Imtech and non-Imtech systems.”

investment Dubai-based Topaz Energy and Marine achieved a net profit of US$5 million in 2009, an increase of around 38% compared with the previous year.

Last year there was a realignment of Topaz’s
businesses and all its subsidiary companies, such as the ship repairer Nico International, were integrated into two new divisions - Topaz Engineering and Topaz Marine. Topaz Engineering includes Topaz Marine Repair (TMR), which has its own floating dock in Abu Dhabi and support facilities in Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. Te company continues to expand into new locations in the Caspian Sea and has recently opened the first marine repair and boat-yard operation in Kazakhstan. will be expanded with the addition of a second floating dock during the latter part of this year, to help keep pace with local demand. TMR has also recently expanded into Qatar, where it has set up a workshop facility in Doha, to cater for the needs of the offshore support vessel segment in particular.
