Offshore conversion orders come back to Keppel
A global recovery in the offshore sector is reflected in the Keppel group’s recent success in the FPSO conversion market.
Singapore-based Keppel Shipyard will undertake the upgrading and conversion of a Suezmax tanker into an FPSO for repeat customer Bumi Armada and work is expected to start shortly on this project. Te scope of work includes general refurbishment and life extension, the fabrication and installation of accommodation blocks, turret support structure and topside modules and the upgrading of auxiliary support systems, When completed in the second quarter of 2011, the converted FPSO will be able to produce up to 45,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), and store 1 million barrels of oil, when deployed in the Te Giac Trang oil field, Vietnam, for Hoang Long Joint Operating Company. Keppel has also secured an order to

convert a FPSO vessel for Single Buoy Moorings (SBM), the yard’s 15th project for this company. Te latest project from SBM is the conversion of VLCC Bauhinia, for a project offshore Equatorial Guinea. Work on this FPSO is expected to
commence in the second quarter of 2010 and will be completed in the third quarter of 2011. Te scope of the project includes refurbishment and life extension works, accommodation block extensions, the fabrication and installation of a flare tower, an internal turret and topside module supports,

as well as the installation and integration of topside modules. Earlier this year the yard delivered FPSO
Capixaba, nine days ahead of schedule, and FPSO P-57, which underwent hull and marine conversion in Singapore. Te latter FPSO will have the remaining topsides installation and integration completed at Keppel’s BrasFELS yard in Brazil. The Singapore yard also recently delivered BW Pioneer, the first FPSO operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Designed to handle harsh operating conditions in this region, BW Pioneer is equipped with an internal disconnectable Submerged Turret Production mooring system and outfitted with advanced safety features to withstand environmental loads from currents, waves

and wind. Keppel Shipyard is also currently converting
another major project, FPSO Okha, for SBM at its Tuas yard. Tis is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Currently in the yard are a further five
FPSO projects. One of these is the FPSO Okha, for SBM which is being carried out at its Tuas yard and which is expected to be completed by the end of this year. During 2009, Keppel completed four FPSO
conversions, as well as one FSO project. Other notable offshore related deliveries included the FDPSO Zuraite, converted from a VLCC for a project offshore Congo, and the FSRU Golar Winter. Keppel is generally upbeat about prospects
