alock’s Pacifi c Seacraft 34 is equally suited for cross- ing oceans or exploring the inlets of Southeast Alaska. Built by Pacifi c Seacraft in California, Spirit’s solid fi - berglass hull with fi n keel and skeg hung rudder pro- vide a moderate turn of speed without sacrifi cing safe- ty and seaworthiness. On a recent sail on Lake Union in about 12 knots of breeze, she moved along nicely under her full batten mainsail and 110% jib. Nearly all of her control lines are led aft to the cockpit and we were able to sail without leaving the comfort of the full canvas cockpit enclosure that kept us warm and dry. When you do need to travel forward, her raised bulwark with teak cap rail and outboard shrouds make it easy to navigate the side decks. Down below, Seacraft’s lib- eral use of solid teak, bronze hardware and other high quality materials hints at her pedigree and creates a comfortable environment.
