“Clean, Green Boating Festival” May 22

The Tacoma Liveaboard Association

and Citizens for a Healthy Bay will co-host the 2nd Annual “Clean, Green Boating Festival” at Tacoma’s Foss Waterway Seaport from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The purpose of the free, open-to- the-public event is to raise awareness of “clean water” issues and to engage South Sound recreational boaters, their families, and all outdoor enthusiasts in creating a more sustainable future for Puget Sound. Festival highlights include “How

to” workshops and seminars for boaters; live demonstrations of new “green” marine products; Metro Parks Tacoma’s small craft safe handling demos; Corinthian Yacht Club of Tacoma’s Junior Laser Sailing classes; radio-controlled model heritage boats; City of Tacoma’s EnviroChallenger hands-on learning activities; and community stewardship projects, including UW-Tacoma’s Environmental Science student-led microscopic examination of locally- collected water samples to educate the public about the effect of our actions on the health of Puget Sound. The Festival will include free

“walk aboard” tours of “clean, green” vessels; “citizen science” boat tours on Commencement Bay and guided public tours on board Admiralty Yachts’ Duffy electric boats and the City of Tacoma’s Source Control boat. A complete schedule of events can
