State Park

Event Announcements Now On Twitter

The Washington State Parks and

Recreation Commission announces the launch of its second Twitter account, featuring state park announcements and event notifications. Twitter, a social media site, allows

immediate communication about state park events, announcements and other pertinent state park information directly to the public. Followers can choose to have state park tweets sent to mobile devices in addition to their Twitter account feed. The first Twitter account was established this winter for winter recreation and Sno-Park notifications. The WaStateParks_NEWS Twitter

account will be most active during the spring and summer recreation season. Followers will receive updates about upcoming concerts, festivals and park events; boating program announcements; volunteer activities and Commission meetings. During the winter, tweets from the

news account will occur less frequently and updates from the WaStatePks_WNTR winter recreation account will increase. Rotating the volume of information sent from accounts provides the public with desired seasonal information at the peak interest. Winter recreation announcements

are available during the 2010-2011 winter season, and some program notification are expected throughout the summer. The winter recreation season begins December 2010. State park notifications are

viewable at http://www.twitter.com/ WaStatePks_NEWS. To follow State Parks news announcements, Twitter users must log in before selecting the “follow” option on the WaStatePks_ NEWS Twitter page. After following the account, users can select the mobile device delivery option in the following settings.

INSTALL

5hp – 2000hp

Business or Pleasure, AquaDrive will make your boat smoother, quieter and vibration free.

The AquaDrive system solves a

problem nearly a century old; the fact that marine engines are installed on soft engine mounts and attached almost rigidly to the propeller shaft. The very logic of AquaDrive is inescapable. An engine that is vibrating

on soft mounts needs total freedom of movement from its propshaft if noise and vibration are not to be transmitted to the hull. The AquaDrive provides just this freedom of movement. Tests proved that the AquaDrive with its softer engine mountings can reduce vibration by 95% and structure borne noise by 50% or more. For information, call Drivelines NW today.

Historic Deception Pass Kitchen Shelter Selected Finalist For Historic Preservation Funding

The Washington State Parks and

Recreation Commission announced today that voting is open for national historic preservation grant program. The Bowman Bay kitchen shelter at Deception Pass State Park is one of 25 sites selected to compete in the American Express and National Trust for Historic Preservation $1 million grant program. The public is invited to vote for

historic structures in the Seattle-Puget Sound area they would most like to see receive funding. The voting is part of the Partners in Preservation initiative — a philanthropic program launched in 2006 aimed at restoring historic sites across the United States. If the Deception Pass preservation

project is a winner, funding will be used to repair damage to the exposed log ends, replace failing roofing, make minor repairs to the stonework and replace window glazing. Counters in the shelter also will be reconstructed,

and the log stain will be reapplied. The work, estimated to cost $85,000, will help preserve and enhance the building for future generations of Washingtonians. The public may cast votes in this

high-tech twist on historic preservation through May 12. To read information about the project, view photos and cast a vote, visit www.preservationnation. org/partners-in-preservation/seattle/ grant-nominees.html Votes may be made once a day

until voting concludes on May 12. At the end of the voting period, American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and an advisory committee of local civic and preservation leaders will review the public’s votes along with each site’s monetary needs to determine how the $1 million in preservation grants will be awarded.
