Buff raises funds for UNICEF

The High UV Protection Buff created to support Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s 2007 Long Way Down motorcycle ride from John O’Groat’s in Scotland to Cape Town continues to raise valuable funds for UNICEF. Buffera’s most recent donation covering the period from 21st April to the 31st December 2009 amounts to £2,482.66. A spokesperson for Buffera said “We’re really pleased that this design continues to appeal to consumers, especially with the recent events in Haiti. We know UNICEF

have been involved in the relief efforts there and we hope this contribution will help in some way. We’ll continue to sell Long Way Down Buff so long as there’s a demand and continue to pass the profits from its sale to UNICEF.”

GoLite creates

product take-back program

GoLite’s innovative Product Take-Back Program is, they say, a first of its kind in the outdoor industry. GoLite will take back and reuse, repurpose, recycle, and/or store for future recycling any GoLite apparel or equipment, regardless of its condition, that the company manufactured since its founding in 1998, excepting footwear which is made by a different company.

The intent of the program is to enable consumers to avoid ever sending their used or unwanted GoLite products to landfill. By visiting www.golite.com, customers can learn more about how to repair or repurpose their product locally, and if they decide to send it back to GoLite, the company will repair, donate, repurpose, recycle, and/or store for future recycling everything they get back, lock, stock and zipper pull. GoLite also recently released a sustainability report, a 156-page document which is apparently a comprehensive account of the company’s environmental and social practices and footprint. You can view the report at www.golite.com/meaning-of- lite/transparency.aspx

Cram unveils Kielder marathon plan

Former Olympic athlete Steve Cram has unveiled plans for a new international sports event – the Kielder Marathon. Scheduled to take place on October 17, the marathon will follow an almost entirely off-road course around northern Europe’s largest man-made lake, Kielder Water, in Northumberland, North East

England. Cram, who came up with the idea for the event, has called it ‘Britain’s most beautiful marathon’.

The marathon will follow the newly completed Lakeside Way, a trail that stretches right around the shoreline of Kielder Water. For the inaugural event, Cram and his

team of organisers are limiting the number of entrants to around 1,000. Runners who are interested in registering an interest for a place on the Kielder Marathon should visit www.kieldermarathon.com.
