FITTING FAREWELL FOR
THE VOICE OF CAMERON
March 6th was not only the final home game for our seniors but also long-time Cameron PA announcer Art Chan-
dler. After an amazing 40 seasons behind the mic, Chandler delivered his final “HERE COMES DUKE” as the Blue
Devils took the floor against UNC and called one final Duke victory in Cameron.
Chandler, who got the job four decades ago with a simple suggestion to a Duke staffer that a play could have been
called better, has been behind the mic even before Cameron was named Cameron. The 77-year-old has witnessed
the stadium evolve into one of the most storied venues in sports and the Duke program grow into a basketball pow-
erhouse... All while calling the action from the best seat in the house and working for free.
“I absolutely adore this place,” said Chandler who is retiring because he says it’s the right time. “Cameron, the team,
the program, everything about Duke. They graduate their players. They do it well. It’s been an absolute honor.”
Chandler was recognized at halftime of our game against Tulsa and a video message from Coach K was played on
the scoreboard. The voice of Cameron plans to attend as many home games as he can next year.
