workshop participant, Mrs. Karen Cunningham, and me to create a presentation for our faculty about literacy. During that faculty meeting, we created an impromptu Socratic Circle of teachers and posed an initiating question tied in with our school’s anti-bullying “Olweus Program” piece. It seemed a smashing success – at least no tomatoes were thrown!

However, as September flew by, we sank into another year’s busy routines. Big plans for Socratic Circles faded, although I did use my initiating question to begin the year, “Do first
