Interview // – Paul F. McClure, CEO of Xidex Corporation

e recently spoke to Dr. Paul F. McClure, CEO of Xidex Corporation, an Austin-based

(USA) Texas Corporation. Xidex Corporation manufactures and sells the NanoBot™, an afforda- ble, LabVIEW™ based nanomanipulator. The company was founded in 1997 by Vladimir Mancevski, President and Chief Technology Officer and Dr. Paul F. McClure, CEO. The company is wholly owned by its co-founders.

The current economic conditions are very tough for a lot of companies worldwide. However, regarding Xidex Corporation the economic situation has actu- ally helped the company in a couple of ways, accor- ding to Dr. Paul F. McClure.

He says: “First, in this economy, there are some very talented people out there looking for new opportuni- ties, and we have been able to take good advantage of this. Second, our customers are now looking for highly affordable solutions for manipulating nano- structures and we are able to satisfy this need with the NanoBot™.”

And anyone who is familiar with the company and NanoBot™ knows what he is talking about.

According to Dr. Paul F. McClure the unique thing about his team at Xidex is “that we have in depth experience with both nanodevices themselves and the tools needed to manipulate and test nanode- vices.” Xidex Corporation built the first NanoBot™ nanomanipulator for use in their own SEM to do mechanical and electrical probing of nanodevices based on individual carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and arrays of CNTs with controlled properties. This work required ultra-low electrical noise and ultra-low drift in addition to a combination of long-range travel and fine-range motion with nanometer-scale resolution.
