Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction

You and your doctor will work together to develop a treatment plan. It might include:

Treating the underlying cause— Sometimes, treating the condition that’s causing your ED, adjusting the medicine that’s triggering it, or changing a behavior is all you need to do.

Medicines—These help increase blood flow to your penis.

Vacuum device—This draws blood into your penis using a pump. A con- striction ring at the base of your penis helps you keep the erection.

Counseling—This can help if your ED is affected by stress, depression or anxiety. If problems with your partner are a factor, you can also go to couples therapy. Ask your doctor to recommend a therapist in your area.

Surgery—This is an option if other treatments haven’t worked.

There are a lot of nonprescription ED medicines, vitamins and supplements advertised. But taking these products can be dangerous, even if they say “all natural.” Stay safe: Don’t take anything unless it’s prescribed by your doctor.
