Sailing Naked?
traileratKeyWest
RaceWeek
Attached is a pic of us sailing Labor Day weekend on
beautiful Lake Coeur d’ Alene. We actually got challenged
with winds at 25 knots and gusts up to 35 knots. We reefed
our sails on Curacion, a 29.9 Seidelmann, and had the time
of our lives on the lake for the day. I put Keith on the tiller
as he always gives me a hard time about how easy it is to
sail on a lake because he often sailed singlehanded out of
Long Beach. Boy, did it shut him up for the day. Tom and I
handled the sheets. A member from Panhandle Yacht Club
came out with a jet ski and took some fantastic pictures.
One problem, there was a water drop on the lens, so
we just tell everyone we were all sailing naked on our
beautiful lake. I just had to send this in as Panhandle
Yacht Club is a sailboat only marina with 112 slips. Great
members and club, and one of the last blue collar yacht
clubs left.

Grammar Police Citation
OK, I’ve had it. I’ve silently put up with it for twenty
plus years. Now it’s time for the grammar police to call
you out on your use of the word “reknown”. The latest

egregious example is in the article about the Norstar 40

in the December issue. The subtitle says, “Norstar Yachts

reintroduces a reknown, Northwest classic.”
First of all, “reknown” isn’t a word. Look it up. It’s

not in the dictionary. I think the word you are trying to use

is “renown”, which means “widespread and high repute;

fame”. So if we re-write the subtitle, it becomes, “Norstar
(206)926-0361 (510)521-4865 (619)255-8844
Yachts reintroduces a fame Northwest classic.” Oops that’s
not right either. How about “renowned”?

Renowned means “famed, distinguished, honored,

notable.” Let’s try this in the sentence, “Norstar Yachts

reintroduces a famed, distinguished, honored, notable,

Got it? Now go to your spell checker and edit the
word “reknown”. It isn’t a word (even if you’ve printed
