After you are happy with the beak and eye retape those
areas with the sections you just pulled out of those areas in
previous step. Then remove the head section of the eagle
for some feathers. I mixed a little black into my white so
that way when I go back to highlight the white it will really
pop. I started by doing dagger strokes around the beak and
eye and worked my way back consistently checking my ref-
erence picture making sure that I made the feathers big-
ger as I went down the head of the eagle. I used a piece of
a lucky charms box and made me a freehand template for
the bigger feathers.
Mix a little black with the white in your airbrush to get a soft grey color and shade
the under side of the feathers keeping in mind the light source (top left). I check back
frequently to my reference picture and shade the areas around the beak and right
eye with a mixture of black, kandy brown (shadows are never totally black so mix a
color close to black). Pull the tape off the eye again to paint the pupil of the eagle
black. Once you have all the shadows to where you like them and it all looks good.
Pull off the beak and eye sections and high light the areas with white. I even added
some little feather around the top of the beak like in the photo, and some veins in the
feathers. Pull off all the tape and get ready for some clear.
