Mr Crusty
and Friends
We are always busy with
hedgehogs and all of our staff
and volunteers are keen to look
after babies. In the winter we get
a lot of under weight hedgehogs
and some of them are usually
suffering from ring worm.
Baby Blue Tits
There is one particular chap
who we are feeling sorry for and
that’s Crusty (lovingly named by
Simon!) Crusty has had ring
worm so badly that he has lost a
lot of his spines and does really
look a little more like a rat than a
hedgehog! Still he is tucked up
in his incubator nice and warm
and receiving treatment so I’m
sure the ‘Ugly Duckling’ will
A pretty pigeon!! Young Heron
eventually grow back into a
smart looking hedgehog.
Small, Medium and Large
Crusty the Hedgehog
As usual, thousands of birds came through
our doors in 2009. As the title says, they
come in all sizes. We just could not have
managed this year without the huge band
of volunteers and students that kept up
the hourly feeds to so many open mouths.
We are hoping to create a bird room
under the Hospital room so that we can
have one room for mammals and one for
birds which would make like so much easier.
So we are busy getting designs for all the
cages that we will need - ready for 2010
which is not far away!
