"I like to think of it as a 'virtual school gate' - where parents can
chat to each other online, find out what is happening in the schools
and pass on useful information to each other."
The question is whether this is an innovative and timely way to
promote communication in a time-pressed world – or is it a sad
indictment of the way that traditional forms of communication, like
conversation is becoming redundant?
Some have suggested that the site will be hijacked by certain
parents to air grudges and indulge in “cyber bullying”. I would
suggest that the best information on choosing a school would come
directly from someone you know and trust and not from an
anonymous source online. As for engaging parents who are not
interested enough to do the most basic research – will a website
really help?
