D35s faced
mixed fortunes
at their last
three events
After the first event of the Challenge Julius Baer ended with
Alinghi on the podium but the remainder of the fleet packed
with Multihull stars demonstrating just how competitive this
series is going to be this season. Regrettably no races were
possible at Romandie.com Act 1 due to lack of wind.
The third event Geneva-Rolle-Geneva
was a light wind start that developed
during the racing to over 20 knots. It
won by Okalys-Corum helmed by Loic
Peyron with Alinghi in second and third.
This set the fleet up nicely for the Bol
d’Or which turned into anything but a
straightforward event!
Foncia, helmed by Alain Gautier and
Michel Desjoyeaux, won the Bol d'
Or. However the 71st edition was the
slowest ever. As the fleet closed on
Geneva any of five boats could have
won and it was in the last 200m, in
virtuall darkeness that the winner
emerged from the pack.
" We were 5-6 boats which battled well.
But we were never in the lead but at
the last moment us we just managed to
get in the lead. This was particularly good as we have often

been in the lead and lost it never finishing on the podium.
We have learned that it is always a difficult race but it is
necessary to be ahead at the finish!"
