looks like a cove about 30m in width.
I walk over and find a burnt out fire
in the middle. At the back of the cove
there is a small cave in the rocks, just
big enough to climb inside. We decide
to set up camp & sleep on our sleeping
mats in the cove for a few days. Each
night that passes, more pilgrims turn
up and decide to join us in the cove.
We also make trips to the alberge to tell
other pilgrims about our developing
cove community. We sing songs and tell
stories around the fire. Sometimes we sit
for hours, silent, staring into the flames,
simply ‘being’ together. It feels like a
divine gift to all of us for daring to let go
and step into the unknown.
It’s about a week into the forming
of our now ‘static’ pilgrim community.
There are people coming and going
every few days, but there are now
around 7 of us who are constant. I wish
that I could stay forever. One of my
friends from the walk, Susanna, left
us yesterday, but turned up again this
morning. She woke me up and with love
in her eyes and said, ‘I just can’t leave
this place, it’s so beautiful’.
A ‘hippy’ German guy called
Sebastian who has cycled from
Germany, has been collecting wood for
the fire. He has found a large tree trunk
and decided to begin carving it into a
totem pole. I join to help him. We sit for
hours over several days determinedly
