the Last saMurai
With The Last Samurai, Milan’s Palazzo Reale
explores the social, economical and political
history of Japan during the Edo period (1615-
1867). On display are outstanding and original
Nipponese armours, helmets, swords and other
accessories on loan from the Koelliker Collection.
Around 80 beautifully preserved pieces map out
the complex world of the Samurais, shedding
some light on Japan’s ongoing fascination with
the aristocratic warriors, their political power and
high-ranking social status.
Numerous collateral events, ranging from cinema
to martial arts and from theatre to Japanese
cartoons, complement the main exhibition. Please
visit the Mazzotta website for further information.
