the rain!” I am not convinced at all but for
the sake of not getting wet I’m willing to
try anything! We say a prayer together by
the totem, asking for protection from the
divine. All of a sudden the thunder nears,
rumbling like the belly of a hungry giant.
A flash of lightning hits the beach near
the totem pole and the entire cove lights
up! As it flashes we feel a surge of energy
flood the cove. We huddle together
feeling a mixture of fear and shock. It
starts raining a few hundred metres out
to sea. We stand up and can see from
the clouds that it’s raining in the village
behind us and to either side of the beach.
We sit in the cove for hours listening to
thunder, watching the fire & waiting for
the rain to hit us. It doesn’t come. Not one
drop of water falls in the cove. None of us
can explain this, we can only be thankful.
After everything that has happened over
the past 3 months this occurrence doesn’t
surprise me at all. I wonder if these
amazing things will continue happening to
me when I get back to London?
After 3 months walking and 3 weeks
sleeping on the beach, my journey for
love is ending, or is it just beginning? I
awake by the fire still burning from the
night before. There is a fertile silence in
the cove as pilgrims sleep. I glance over
at Robert and Laura sleeping quietly,
their bodies still, non-moving. I can
hear the gentle swooshing of the ocean
acoustically reverberating around the
cove. All of the elements are here. Fire,
Earth, Air and Water. Listening to the
ocean I imagine I am back in the womb,
surrounded by ambience, filled with love.
I am peacefully overwhelmed by the
sound of the crashing waves.
I stand up and walk towards the retreating
tide whilst light fights to penetrate the
dusky early morning sky. With the horizon
reflected in my eyes I try to see beyond it.
I whisper softly to the ocean, “I will never
stop walking”.
The waves dramatically crash at my feet
as if acknowledging my promise.
I smile...
