+++Regional roundup – Vitalise Churchtown

++New lake
A new lake has been excavated in Vitalise Churchtown’s nature reserve, adding to the Centre’s exciting range of attractions. The lake is in a figure of eight shape, with two islands. For the first time visiting groups will be able participate in fully accessible water-based activities, including canoeing and raft building, within the Centre’s grounds.

++Navy Day
Sailors from the Royal Navy and the US Navy joined forces in February for Vitalise Churchtown’s annual Navy Day. The 40-strong team set to work sprucing up the Centre and grounds in readiness for the busy year ahead. After a hard day's work the team was rewarded with Cornish pasties, cream teas and the gratitude of all the staff at Vitalise Churchtown.

++New Resource Centre
The Vitalise Churchtown Day Centre has moved into more spacious accommodation within the main complex. The Vitalise Churchtown Resource Centre, as it is now known, features a larger computer room, more space for arts and crafts, and a new Independent Living Suite complete with kitchen.

++Pirates attack!
Members of Cornish Pirates rugby club took time off from training to help restore Vitalise Churchtown’s nature reserve in January, as part of the ‘Cornwall Cares’ scheme. The players helped grounds person Melanie Broomhead clear weeds from the stream, prune the sensory maze and maintain the boardwalk. They certainly earned their tot of rum that day!

++Open the gate!
Visually impaired day service user Ralf Bennett stepped into the breach when Vitalise Churchtown’s Manor House gate was accidentally damaged. With the help of local volunteer Neville Marshall, the gate was expertly repaired. Thanks to Ralf and Neville for a great job.

++Raleigh appeal
A huge thank you to HMS Raleigh for the donation of £742.33, raised by the Captain's 'Give a Pound at Christmas' appeal. The Centre has been benefiting from HMS Raleigh's support since 1985.
