Jeffrey Ledoux, Air Force Sergeants Association 26th International President

IT’S CONVENTION TIME

Each year our members get together to celebrate the previous year’s success and enjoy fellowship with other AFSA members. Whether to rekindle old friendships or meet new friends, conventions are a special time for our association. For those unaware, each of our seven divi- sions will put on a two- to three-day convention.

DIVISION CONVENTIONS

March, April and May are special months for our Divi- sions. Each year during this time, division members come together for three days to celebrate the division’s successes. During the three days, division presidents conduct the business of AFSA. This includes recogniz- ing our numerous award recipients, getting legislative briefings on important issues facing our members and receiving training on numerous topics designed to make you better AFSA leaders. In addition, they will approve the division’s budget, review and approve standing rules, and conduct elections to fill leadership positions within the division. In between all that, they will enjoy each oth- er’s hospitality, have a little fun and listen to a few guest speakers. It is a fun-filled and jam-packed event designed to renew your commitment to AFSA. By the time many of you read this, you will have already attended your con- vention. If so, I hope you had a great time and learned a lot from the speakers and fellow members. I know I’ve enjoyed my visit with members from Divisions 3, 4 and 6 thus far. If you haven’t already gone to yours, I hope yours is as successful as the rest.

AFSA’S INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION AND PROFESSIONAL AIRMAN’S CONFERENCE

Get ready to get your socks knocked off. That’s right… our theme for the Icebreaker is a “Good Ol’ Fashion Fabu- lous ’50s Sock Hop,” which will be lots of fun. Speaking of socks, don’t forget to buy a pair of the new AFSA socks. Three dollars from every pair purchased goes back to AFSA. You can’t beat it. Not only does AFSA get a benefit from every pair, you’ll be styling with a pair (or two) of the beautiful new “We Are AFSA” socks. What a way to impress your AFSA friends. I’m challenging each of you to buy at least one pair and wear them during the convention. In addition to the Icebreaker, we’ll have the normal business meetings and guest speakers that are always phenomenal. You’ll also receive some insight from our Air Force Senior Leaders designed to inform and develop you both personally and professionally. During the conven- tion, we’ll get the opportunity to elect new leaders and review potential by-law changes before voting on them. Furthermore, you’ll be entertained and take part in the numerous awards being presented. Our President’s Din- ner and Honors Banquet have always been top-notch and this year will be no different. This year’s event will be held July 22–26 at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada. Mark your calendars and go register on the AFSA website. We hope to see you there, as this year we will celebrate AFSA’s 56th birthday.
