MIXING VALVES ■ Stay out of hot water with point-of-use valves!
Every mixing valve requires a minimum flow of water to operate properly. If water usage falls below this flow threshold, the valve cannot properly control water temperature – and that puts residents and staff alike at risk for scalding. To help ensure you don’t oversize your mixing valve, see our mixing valve sizing charts on page E270.
While low-flow failures are uncommon with a properly sized mixing valve, there is another line of defense you can use to help keep your residents safe from scalding. Point-of-use valves attach at the nozzle where water is dispensed and arrest flow when they detect scalding temperatures. It’s a small investment that can help prevent big injuries.
