Control surface deflection was set up per the manual and 30% exponential was used for the first flights. After advancing the throttle with my Gamma’s nose into the wind, the tail soon lifted and I held it down until the aircraft built sufficient speed to lift off. When the wheels were off the ground,
the rudder. It is then attached and set with CA glue. The only visible screws on the model are those used for the wheel spats at the wing and the aileron servo covers. This is an
can easily be removed for grass field operations. The fully enclosed wheel spats, teamed with the fillet work, really make it look like an art deco piece, which is fitting because this airplane was designed in the 1930s. The spring- suspension steerable tail wheel looks great as well. The model utilizes CA hinges, which
are preinstalled with the exception of the vertical stabilizer. The steering rod for the tail wheel goes through the fuselage and into a small hole that must be drilled into
extremely slick-looking model. The center of gravity is spot on with the brushless motor combo, and the 1,300 mAh LiPo and ESC all the way forward. I’m using a 10 x 6 GWS propeller. Flying the Gamma Polar Star is amazing. The airplane feels sturdy and just right in the hand, balances well, and has the looks to give you the confidence that this aircraft will fly. Ample dihedral, solid landing gear, and an excellent design by Maxford USA all contribute to that confidence.
I advanced the throttle and climbed to safety to trim it and feel it out. The model climbed at full speed, but settled into a nice, level attitude at roughly half throttle. I was truly amazed at the character this model displayed, especially in the wind.
It has plenty of power on tap to get out of trouble. The airplane was very responsive in high-rate settings and I kept it at a high rate for the sake of control authority for the duration of the day. I’m pleased with this aircraft. The
wheel spats and the 1930s design and feel are right there in the experience of watching it fly by or just looking at it as it hangs from your ceiling. Overall, the Gamma is a truly great
model and a remarkable piece of aviation history. Maxford USA did its homework and produced a nice-flying model in honor of this fantastic record- breaking aircraft. Well done!
The recommended motor, a Uranus-28309, is a perfect fit for the model and is easily mounted to the motor box.
The magnetic hatch offers easy access to radio gear and the battery.
