Your efforts, with that of thousands of others including more than 50 U.S. senators have resulted in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adding 45 days to the public comment period for its proposed rule on carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. Comments now must be submitted by Dec. 1.


Announced on June 2 of this year, the proposed rule would mandate a 30 percent cut in carbon emissions, based on 2005 emission levels, from domestic power plants by 2030. The EPA standards vary per state depending on regional energy portfolios and what the EPA determined each state can do to move to cleaner sources of electricity. A final rule is expected in June 2015.
