ROADMAP 2021/22
Edmund Optics will continue to invest in custom imaging lens capabilities in order to provide additional design and assembly services for demanding and complex applications. As environmental requirements such as resistance to vibrations, shock and temperature changes on imaging lenses become tougher, a high level of expertise is required to provide optimal imaging solutions for such demanding applications. In response to these growing needs,
Edmund Optics has opened an assembly and advanced design facility in Tucson, Arizona. Te site will support advanced design efforts as well as prototyping and high-volume manufacturing services, including cleanroom assembly and incoming inspection. It will have numerous testing capabilities such as modulation transfer function, straylight, thermal cycle, shock, and vibration. Te company will also be strengthening
its ulterior design resources at a regional level, specifically in the EU where further
gtechnologies. Second, making deep learning more accessible for users and increasing its
flexibility also remains an important goal for us. We will, for example, bring deep learning into our Merlic product, and we are working on improving Halcon’s 3D technologies with the help of deep learning. Te MVTec deep learning tool will continue to play an important role as well, receiving more functionality to integrate all steps in the deep learning workflow.’

Trough 2021 into 2022, Navitar will release 6x and 12x zoom and motorised imaging lens designs for demanding environments and automated applications. For customers using larger format sensors, Navitar will introduce HR objectives with 67 to 150 per cent wider field of view, 30 per cent higher resolution, and resolving power of 0.5 to 2µm.
Te company’s Pixelink division will
also expand its 10GigE, high QE, and HDR camera lines, along with its suite of auto focus liquid lens cameras optimised for fast, noiseless, controllable auto-focus from 10cm to infinity. Production facility upgrades, equipment
optical design engineering capacity will be available and dedicated to European customer design projects. Edmund Optics provides complete
imaging solutions with a large product line, technical expertise and support, manufacturing capabilities, and assists customers to maximise the performance of their imaging system.

Te inspection business unit at Excelitas stayed strong during the pandemic, thanks to the very broad application base it serves. Furthermore, it experienced a sudden increase in orders for off-the-shelf products as well as custom solutions from the last quarter of 2020. Excelitas is now working on extensions of its Optem, Mag.x 125, and Linos inspection lens product families. Higher resolution requirements as well as additional wavelength ranges are some
of the drivers, besides improving product reliability and performance.

Stemmer Imaging will extend its value- added service portfolio, ranging from individual supply and logistic services to pre-configured product bundles and software integration. Te firm will evaluate offering fully functional subsystems to reduce its customers’ time and effort in vertical applications.
Te company’s European Imaging
Academy training programme will expand, covering new and maturing technologies such as 3D vision, AI and embedded vision. Stemmer Imaging will continue to broaden its project and solutions capabilities offering expert advice, both for new installations and to update existing ones. Te focus will also expand beyond applications on the manufacturing floor to those such as sport and entertainment, or traffic and infrastructure.

With Coaxpress-over-fibre gaining camera maker adoption, Euresys is working on new Coaxlink frame grabbers, as well as fibre extenders compatible with Coaxpress CXP- 12 and Coaxpress-over-fibre. New functions extending the 3D and deep
learning inspection capabilities of Open eVision software will be released soon. Tey include the Easy3DMatch library, a 3D pose estimation and CAD-based inspection library, in addition to a deep learning enhanced optical character recognition function. Open eVision will also offer Linux compatibility this year for porting in embedded applications. Finally, Sensor to Image’s IP core
product range recently saw its Coaxpress IP core enhanced with Microchip Polarfire
