NEWS News from EMVA

to test the interoperability of diverse components and their connection to internationally common host applications. This, in turn, accelerates technical innovation.

By Thomas Lübkemeier

The EMVA is looking forward to contributing next year to Vision 2021 with various activities. The fact that the machine vision industry will now meet at the trade fair in Stuttgart, from 5 to 7 October 2021, is a positive and important signal for our highly dynamic industry in these difficult times. The activities the EMVA is planning include the traditional International Vision Night as a get-together on the evening before the first day of the trade fair. In addition, the association will act as lead organiser of the International Machine Vision Standards exhibition, which will present the latest developments and features of machine vision standards.

Standardisation during the pandemic The pandemic has affected important work on vision standards. For example, the International Vision Standards Meeting (IVSM) cannot take place as planned in Gifu, Japan, but will be held as series of working group online meetings over four weeks. The working groups of the EMVA- hosted standards GenICam, EmVision and OOCI each have their own virtual meetings, while EMVA 1288 will report within the Future Standard Forum of the G3. The traditionally very good and close co-operation in standardisation now depends a lot on creativity and flexibility of all participants when moving to a virtual forum. However, the plugfest, the technical highlight of each on-site IVSM, cannot be recreated virtually and is dearly missed by the engineers. The plugfest normally offers the possibility
