TEC Fire and Security

Building a secure foundation over ten years

If you’d met me back in 2011, you’d have found a fairly disenchanted chap – enthusiastic about and experienced in fi re and safety but pretty unhappy working as an employee. I was convinced I could enjoy a more satisfying working life and provide a more eff ective and personal service by striking out on my own … which is exactly what I did. In June 2011, Tec Fire and Security was born, and I was on my way! Sure, I knew about fire, safety and security. I also knew about

customer service and the importance of putting my clients at the forefront of everything I did. But, boy – I had plenty to learn about setting up and then running my own business. Fortunately, I was able to surround myself with great people who gave me wonderful support. I combined this support with plenty of diligent study and research. I soon learned the value of developing a vision with goals, as well as the importance of having a good team who shared my values. The company started as a security systems provider, with a couple of Astra vans, lots of determination, but with no real plan or sense of direction. It really was a ‘go with the flow and enjoy the new-found freedom’ approach. I soon realised this wasn’t enough for me, but I didn’t have the skill set

or knowledge to grow a business. I delved into personal development and business books and invested in a mentor and spoke to lots of

other business owners, this gave me a new lease of life and a new-found enthusiasm for meaning and purpose. To grow a business, you need to be enthusiastic and clear on your goals so others will invest in your journey. Just recently we were excited to announce a

development aimed at keeping schools safe and secure – a partnership with EduTec, founded by Adam Goldsmith. With Edutec, we’re able to off er an up-to-date visitor management system into schools as well as an all-round IT consultancy service. We already work with many schools, so this new partnership is very much a natural progression that will strengthen the services we off er. All I will say is the fi rst 10 years have been a roller

coaster ride, but with vision, continued learning and investment into systems and processes we are in a great position to continue growing. What about the next ten years? Well, I expect in

our newsletter of May 2031, I’ll be telling you how TEC Fire & Security has continued on its successful path of growth while sticking to the fundamental principle of keeping our customers as safe and compliant as they can possibly be.
