STANDARDS WATCH
STANDARDS REPORT By David Richards MSc CEng CEnv FIMechE HonFSEEHonFSEE
During the last four decades, standards expert David Richards has had active involvement in environmental test standardisation and worked on every issue of the UK Defence Standard 00- 035 related to environmental testing. He has also worked on environmental standards for NATO, chaired the European Expert Group recommending environmental requirements for the European Defence Agency and worked on European (CEN) standards.

This issue of the standards report includes the update to the standard used for automotive electrical and electronic equipment to establish environmental conditions and appropriate tests. BS ISO 16750 Road vehicles. Environmental conditions and testing for electrical and electronic equipment. The purpose of this series of documents is to assist its users in systematically defining and/or applying a
set of internationally accepted environmental conditions, tests and operating requirements which are based on the anticipated actual environment in which the equipment will be operated and exposed to during its life cycle. Currently BS ISO 16750-1 General, has been updated and reissued. BS ISO 16750-2 Electrical loads, is currently under revision whist -3 to -5 mechanical, climatic and chemical loads respectively, have all been recently reviewed and confirmed as still applicable.
