INSTRUMENTAL ANALYTICS & CHARACTERISATION AWARD OPEN

September closing date for second year of annual award that offers €20,000 prize

Test engineers, scientists and researchers involved in instrumental analysis and characterisation are being invited to submit projects for an associated research prize with a value of €20,000. Austrian specialist for analytical

instruments and measuring equipment, Anton Paar, is calling for applications for the second annual research award, which has a closing date of 30th September 2019. “We are looking forward to receiving

submissions on new methods and/or applications of instrumental chemical analysis or physical characterisation of materials not older than two years,” said Gerhard Murer, lead scientist at Anton Paar. Additionally, the proposals should show a high probability of enabling new

STUDENT 2019 This year’s Formula Student automotive engineering challenge is expected to see more than 3,000 participants from over 25 countries taking part at the Silverstone race circuit in Northampton, UK, this July. Formula Student challenges university

teams from across the world to design and build a single seater racing car which they drive in a series of races over three days on the renowned Silverstone track. This year will see the launch of Formula

Student’s AI competition, where teams will programme the competition’s prototype autonomous vehicle, as well as purpose- built vehicles, to undertake a series of on- and off-track driving challenges. According to Andrew Deakin, chairman

of Formula Student, about 1,000 university teams have been involved in Formula Student competitions in the 20 years since its launch, which equates to roughly 40,000 students from across the world. “This year we are really excited to have

teams competing in the new FS-AI competition,” he said. “Formula Student has always been

proud of the work it does to prepare students for the real world of industry

scientific or industrial products and/or applications. The winners will be selected by a jury

consisting of representatives from renowned Austrian universities and Anton Paar. All entries will be judged on the

potential for application as a product or method, and the impact on the development of new or improved measuring technologies. The prize will be awarded in the beginning of 2020.
