Integrated services are generally viewed as beneficial, but what does this actually mean for sports facility constuction? Jason Douglass, commercial director at S&C Slatter, explains.
development’s principal contractor. Using the integrated collaborative model, we were able to deliver through our own in-house resources many different constituents of the overall scheme under a single project brief: • Two full size 3G artificial turf football pitches and a full-size natural grass pitch
• 8 lane polymeric athletics track with natural grass infield
S&C Slatter delivered a wide range of facilities under a single project brief at Elmbridge Xcel Sports Complex
WE are currently seeing increasing demand for integrated or single point supply chain solutions sports facility construction. It’s not coincidental that this seems to be happening at the same time as project scope and complexity is itself very much on an upward curve with multi- asset developments certainly becoming a regular feature of our new business portfolio. The preference for a single, trustworthy and
responsible supply source and facilitator of specialist services is a principle driver. And critically that entity has to be prepared and capable of integrating seamlessly into a client’s own project team and leading a collaborative working process. By bringing as many projects elements and
phases as possible under such a project model one is seeing significant achievements in ‘on and beyond plan’ delivery with gains in design performance, supply chain efficiencies, cost control, health & safety and quality assurance to name just a few practical benefits. Obviously inter-team communication is very
much simplified and enhanced as is liaison with any other external providers. The pay-off is greater accuracy, less misunderstanding and less wastage both in time and budgets. For S&C Slatter, a project engagement of this
type will very often embrace a number of our in-house specialisms and resources – design and planning, sports facility construction, surfacing and civils, maintenance and aftercare – meaning we have a direct input into the development and delivery of a project at all principal stages. And with early direct management responsibility where our specialist expertise can have a critical impact and benefit. This direct responsibility is important
where the scheme has a number of specialist parts and the working environment is complex or challenging. A case in point is the design and construction
of the new Elmbridge Xcel Sports Complex now acknowledged as one of Surrey’s finest community assets. S&C Slatter is a Category A Supply Chain Partner of Willmott Dixon, the
