High performance multi-use flooring
BRIGHTON’S Prince Regent Swimming Complex (PRSC) is a popular inner city pool hall and fitness complex, operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council. It recently transformed a fitness studio into a high-performing functional fitness area where flooring played a starring role. PRSC turned to Escape for support in
creating a functional fitness facility that would appeal to a wider audience, whilst standing out against local competition. Escape’s ENERGYM multi-use flooring anchors the final concept – a functional studio designed to offer Escape’s group exercise programming MOVE IT. Challenges included the refurbishment
of PRSC’s previously disused stores and a staff room, and different flooring heights – one of the biggest challenges being to ensure the right base to allow for a seamless flooring system. The multi-use flooring is anti-bacterial,
non-porous and fully customisable – ideal for incorporating the MOVE IT grid design to create maximal workout stations which increase the ROI on limited floor space. The cushioned system also reduces fatigue and impact injury to joints, tendons and muscles, with a natural amount of slide to help reduce muscle strain. PRSC chose a dynamic two-way colour
Designing and defining new gym training spaces
GYMKIT UK redesigned the gym flooring at Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury to create two functional training spaces, extend the free weights area and refresh the CV and selectorised space. The aim of the project was to meet the
increasing demand for both functional training and free weights and modernise the facility. The redesign would also give personal trainers more tools and space to utilise during their sessions. The entire gym floor was uplifted as part of
the project and replaced throughout with a range of surfaces to meet the needs of the new spaces. In the newly extended free weight area, a 40mm impact material was laid to reduce noise and vibration. The surface was specified in grey to complement the flooring scheme

alongside it. The same grey rubber flooring was installed in one of the new functional training areas to protect the floor from equipment like kettlebells. Meanwhile, a bespoke rubber tile system
with integrated Queenax floor markings – to help with hand and foot placement during workouts - was installed in functional training area one. An artificial turf track was also laid alongside the Queenax rig to accommodate training with prowlers and sleds. Approximately, 500sq m of flooring was
installed in the gym helping to map out the new design and providing users with clearly designated training spaces.

scheme for the main floor – a vibrant green base coupled with a bright blue, to create functional zone markings. A contrasting white forms easily visible outlines and numbering. Combined with the modern blue lighting, the overall design creates a contemporary, energetic ambience and inviting experience –attractive to its desired member base.
