WITH the UK set to leave the EU on 29 March, 2019, we thought it would be interesting to talk to some of those working in the sector to find out how, if at all, Brexit is affecting business. As we went to press, there was still no breakthrough on Theresa May’s deal, so the uncertainty surrounding Brexit continues. See what some of the sector’s leading architects and contractors have to say about Brexit and their experience of it to date (P17).
Also in this issue, we go behind the scenes to learn more about how funding decisions are made at Sport England. So many facilities and organisations benefit from their awards, yet it’s rare that we find out how these funds were secured and what makes some bids more successful than others. In this case, we look at the recent award of £6.65m to sports charity Street Games, and talk to both the charity and Sport England about how this transformational funding was achieved. (P31)
