PRESIDENT of the Ladies Section, Mary Debman was joined by Secretary Carol and son George to make the final trip to hand over the final cheque and last of the monies totalling £4.5k on behalf of


the Ladies Section to Ananth Shankar at University College London (UCL) Hospitals. Dr Shankar is the


Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist as well as Clinical Lead for Adolescent Neuro-oncology at UCL Hospitals. Aſter studying medicine at Calicut Medical


College in Kerala, India. Dr Shankar went on to train in Paediatric Oncology at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin and then to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, and is a Research Fellow at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London. Dr Shankar’s key interests


Section President in 2000, Mary and the Ladies have presented Dr Shankar with more than £40k to help hundreds of children suffering from cancer. Helping to fund research and purchase equipment like beds, wheel chairs, pump infusers and the fitting out of a play room with toys, and specially adapted bicycles enabling young amputees to navigate the wards and exercise while at the hospital. Te visit was a final act


for the Section and for Mary now in her eighties and like all her other visits will be remembered and appreciated for many years to come. n
