J W MICHAEL BEAUMONT (1944 - 2017) On leaving
school in 1960, Michael went to Chadacre Institute of Agriculture in Shrimpling, Suffolk returning two years later to work on a local mixed arable farm with sheep, pigs and cattle. When he was

IT is with great sadness we announce the passing of former President of the NFMFT Michael Beaumont on 22nd October. Born in 1944 on a mixed
arable and dairy farm in Colne, Huntingdonshire. At age 13, Michael moved with the family to Fulbourn village near Cambridge where his parents ran a newsagent, grocery and provisions shop.

background and wanting to steal the march on a new Tesco store a mile and a half away. Michael started his own beef herd producing ‘locally’

reared beef for the shop. And remained committed, oſten as a spokesman on local radio, for more than fiſty years promoting and supplying locally produced meat and food. In later years, with the
business considerably extended, Michael’s son James continues to trade from the same premises which leſt Michael to specialise in outside catering with ‘Paula’s Pantry’ selling meat mostly from cattle reared and tended by Michael himself. A long-standing member
of the Cambridge and District Master Butchers Association, Michael served as president for three years before joining the Federation’s Executive Council in May 2000 and serving on the Services and Training and Marketing Committees and becoming National President in 2005. Retiring from the Executive Council and made a Life
Honorary Vice President in 2008, Michael re-joined the Executive in 2011 to become National President again in 2012. Being one of only three in the NFMFTs 130- year history to have served as President on two separate occasions. Michael will be
remembered for his sound council, commitment to the traditional craſt trade and for two presidencies which saw the launch of Craſt Butcher magazine, engagement with Primary Authority and for establishing Premier Butcher and the Premier Butcher brand, which today is supported and promoted by hundreds of butchers across the country. A Liveryman of the
Worshipful Company of Butchers Michael leaves behind wife Paula, daughter Angela, son James and granddaughters Jade and Olivia. n
