NEWPORT FEEDS

A NEW BULK SUPPLY CHAIN FACILITY

Above: Product transported, unloaded and stored in sealed big bags ensures minimal risk of cross-contamination

Expansion Plans Newport Industries likes to differentiate itself from its competitors by sourcing natural and sustainable products from suppliers with very energy efficient sites. Thereafter the efficiency and speed comes from having an entirely dockside operation in which product is shipped directly from the supplier right to the door of the warehouse, from where it can be sent out to mills in bulk, in big bags or in 25kg sacks, offering flexibility, quality assurance and a competitive price. Little wonder then that the plan for the future is to replicate the

Liverpool terminal, albeit on a smaller scale, at the company’s other facilities which are located in ports around the UK and in Ireland. The most likely first location for one of these ‘mini terminals’ will be in Ireland , where the feed market is maturing and the biggest new demand is being seen. There is also a demand for soda ash in that part of the world, so by using similar loading techniques to those in operation at Liverpool, it will be possible to gain from the economies of scale and bring material to customers in a better quality, faster and at a better price than they currently experience. Then, the plan is to evaluate the market in the UK and decide the order in which the next developments should take place, but ultimately it is likely there will be smaller scale versions of the terminal in Liverpool located at ports in Scotland, Ireland and in the South-West of England, reflecting the demand for feed products principally for the ruminant and monogastric market. In summary, Newport Feeds as the fastest growing division within

Newport Industries, is looking over the next few years to expand the portfolio of feed products and blends it offers, as well as introducing improved product handling and loading capabilities at ports around the UK and Ireland, to replicate its already established and highly impressive facility in Liverpool. Exciting times are ahead for this innovative supplier to the feed trade.
